A Week in Rugs

I’ve been busy, busy, busy making a variety of rag rugs and a weaving over the past week. I thought I’d just post some photos of my creations.

 

Weaving the Woven - WIP

I have been busy working on a hand woven wall hanging using purely recycled fabrics hence the name weaving the woven. This is a home made frame loom which is really easy and quick to make. I will post more photographs as soon as the hanging is complete.

Ethical Mirasol Blanket Project

Look at the absolutely exquisite colours in this embryonic blanket project. I think I could be in heaven and given this wool comes from such an ethical project makes me feel good too. I don’t want to lecture anyone about social responsibility and ethical consumerism as I think this yarn could make the argument for me. I have just received a variety of skiens of Mirasol Hacho and I’ve decided to be very selfish and make myself a huge blanket, throw, afghan.

Exploring Fibre With Innovation 2010

Just a quick blog to let you know that I have been awarded funding from the Scottish Arts Council in partnership with Fife Council to undertake the above project in the new year.
I will of course share my project, research and findings with you all and hopefully provide some innovative findings which may be inspirational to some of you.
This project will allow me to research new ways of producing work. By researching the different types of fibres available and their inherent properties it will allow my creativity to expand in new directions.
The relationship between fibre and the final object or outcome is an interdependent relationship and I would welcome exploring and documenting these relationships in terms of construction, aesthetic appeal, sustainability and functionality.
